A Trisomy 13 Angel

Samuel was born on March 11, 2023, after we spent the last half of my pregnancy being told he would be stillborn due to a full trisomy 13 diagnosis. He came into the world wide-eyed and crying. He showed us he was going to fight and prove statistics wrong.

Sam spent 10 days in the NICU and was then discharged home on hospice with the expectation to pass within the month. He had other plans. Samuel blessed us with the most amazing 16 months. He was the happiest boy around; he never cried and was always smiling. He loved his toys, swimming, walking, and snuggling with mom and dad.

He was called home suddenly on August 6, 2024, from an unidentified illness. He is now our little angel, watching out for his little sister, who was born 2 weeks exactly after he passed. We have always associated space with Sam. When we got his diagnosis, we constantly saw shooting stars. His bedroom was space-themed.

He got to experience the eclipse, meteor showers, and the northern lights. We also always called him our little spider man because if there was a spider in the house he would be sure to find it while rolling around. He would always have a squashed spider on his diaper.
