Milo

A Full Trisomy 18 Angel

Milo is our only child and our miracle baby. He was conceived through IVF and was our only viable embryo. After six rounds of fertility treatments and more than seven years of infertility, we were finally pregnant. We heard our sweet baby’s heartbeat at 7 weeks and lived in complete bliss.

At 10 weeks, everything changed. Our NIPT came back high risk, and we were referred to MFM. A few days later, we prepared for an amnio. Our fears were confirmed when our baby boy received his diagnosis of Full Trisomy 18. At 20 weeks, we learned of an additional diagnosis, Spina Bifida. His form was severe, with part of his spine exposed and leaking spinal fluid.

We accepted his diagnoses and found small moments of joy in the precious time we had with him. We were blessed with an incredible NILMDTS photographer who met us on November 14 for maternity photos. We believe that was the last day Milo was alive. Two days later, we received the devastating news that there was no longer a heartbeat. We chose to carry for three more days to mentally prepare for what was ahead.

Milo James, our beautiful and perfect little boy, was born on Friday, November 19, 2021. He weighed 1 pound 13 ounces and measured 13.25 inches long. He looked just like his daddy, with the cutest button nose, the sweetest pouty lips, and the most precious little toes. His soft brown hair was coming in beautifully. I imagine he would have had my big brown eyes, had we been lucky enough to see them.

We were blessed to carry our Milo for 28 weeks before saying the hardest goodbye imaginable.

We share Milo’s life with the world through our nonprofit, Cradling Memories, The Milo James Coe Foundation. We support families like ours who are facing pregnancy with a life-limiting diagnosis and help them create a lifetime of memories. It is an honor to be Milo’s parents and to carry his legacy for the rest of our days.
