A Trisomy 18 Warrior
After years of infertility and loss, we were overjoyed to find out that we were pregnant. We were so excited to share the miraculous news with our friends and family.
When we went to our genetic screening, the doctor told us he was concerned by the ultrasound, and we had bloodwork done that soon revealed our precious baby was diagnosed with Trisomy 18. We were only given grim statistics and negative stories and given the option to terminate the pregnancy, but I told my doctor this baby was wanted and I was going to give her a chance.
I had to reach out to my local community to find a doctor who would honor my wishes and respect my daughter’s life. I wanted her to be surrounded in hope and love.
After a beautiful pregnancy, on December 27, 2016, our little queen was born. We were told she wouldn’t live longer than 7 days, and a week came and went. Then a month, 6 months, a year, and now almost 9 years later.
She is the love of my life. She has ignited a fire inside of me to defend the lives of those without voices. She is the happiest little girl. She loves her family, especially her big sissy. She thinks opening Amazon packages is the funniest thing in the world. She loves playing dress-up and is known for her collection of costumes. She spends her days smiling and being surrounded in love.
She was the missing piece to our family puzzle, and I’ll never stop fighting for her.
