Ezra
A Cerebral Palsy Warrior
This sweet little man was born at 23 weeks, 3 days due to me developing HELLP Syndrome that sent me into liver failure with dangerously high blood pressure. In and out of the hospital myself many times before, they finally pulled him on October 23, 2020, at just 470g.
Since that day, we experienced problem after problem. After a 17-month NICU stay between 2 NICUs, Ezra was diagnosed with the following:
- Chronic Lung Disease
- Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia
- Pulmonary Hypertension
- Retinopathy of Prematurity (resulting in retinal detachments and now blindness)
- Addison's Disease
- Tracheomalacia
- Cerebral Palsy
All of his medical complexities stem from being born so early, and he is expected to outgrow everything aside from his blindness and CP.
Ezra is now 4.5 years old, having been born at 23 weeks as a micro-preemie. He overcame many battles in his 17-month NICU stay, including several lung infections, too many surgeries to count, and retinopathy of prematurity. He finally came home in April of 2022 with a trach, ventilator, oxygen, g-tube, and 22 medications. Now, he is trach-free as of April 2025! He is still on oxygen but is weaning down, and he is eating some food by mouth. Through it all, he has always been the happiest boy you'd meet!
