Brextyn
A Preemie Warrior
Brextyn, who is a preemie warrior born at 31 weeks. At just 8 weeks, I went to my first appointment, where they told me his heart rate was in the 60s and that I could likely miscarry. This was the scariest and most challenging news to hear. When we went back 2 weeks later, he had a strong heart rate of 171! On this second ultrasound, he looked like a little duck! During my whole pregnancy, I felt like something was off. He was always on my right side and hardly ever moved his entire body. During my emergency C-section, we later discovered the reason: I have a unicornuate uterus, meaning I only have half of a uterus, which limited the space for him to grow. Ever since he was born, he has been a feisty little guy and has always made me believe that God has a plan for him, even on my darkest days. When he was born, he was diagnosed with respiratory distress syndrome. He caught norovirus, which really messed with his stomach (they initially thought it was NEC), and he was NPO for a month. They then missed a hemorrhage in his brain that they found evidence of and dilation when we were discharged from the NICU on June 6th. Luckily, it wasn’t anything serious and has since been resolved! With weekly physical therapy, he has been reaching all his milestones!
