“Our Glennon story started on July 11th, 2020, when I took my daughter, Juliana, who had just turned two, to the emergency room at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. Just a few hours later, our world fell apart when we heard the words, ‘there is a tumor’. Despite immediate treatment, Juliana lost her sight that same night. The pressure was too extensive from the tumor which is skull based and wraps around her head and behind her eyes. She spent the next few weeks fighting to stay with us while admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. It was during this time that her diagnosis was confirmed - Stage 4 Neuroblastoma. It was unfavorable and had spread extensively to every corner of her little body.” – Stephanie, Juliana’s mom
Juliana has bravely fought, against all odds, for the past three years. She has her momma, Stephanie, a twin sister named Carlie, a big sister named Emily, and a daddy in Heaven (he passed when she was one).
Sisters Emily and Carlie have found art therapy to be an excellent way of dealing with all the trauma that they have endured over the last 4 years. When Stephanie saw the post about the Thankful Threads contest, she asked if they wanted to work together to come up with something to submit. Their design was a collective effort of Emily’s words and suns, and Carlie’s writing. They came up with the words for the design when brainstorming about words that describe their sister, Juliana and other Glennon warriors.
“Even though Juliana is the Glennon kid in our family, thediagnosis has made us all members of the Glennon community,” says Stephanie. “We truly feel blessed to be able to call ourselves a Glennon family.”
