William

A Spina Bifida Warrior

William was diagnosed with spina bifida after my anatomy scan. We decided to pursue fetal surgery as a closure option, which required an amniocentesis. From that, we learned he also has Klinefelter's syndrome (47,XXY). We were still able to have fetal surgery at 24 weeks, and he was delivered via an emergency C-section at 33 weeks. He has done amazingly well, working hard to make progress in PT, OT, and ST. Medically, we're thankful he's had minimal complications so far. We recently found out he also has periventricular nodular heterotopia and is at an increased risk for seizures. He's also named after my mother-in-law's twins, who were stillborn. William loves hiking, mud, camping, s'mores, slime, sled hockey, cars and trucks, and video games. His favorite color is yellow.
