Alexis

An Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita Warrior

From the moment our sweet Alexis entered the world, she was a bright, beautiful, and strong little soul. During my anatomy scan, we found out she had a clubbed foot and a rare condition called arthrogryposis. It was a lot to take in as first-time parents, but from the very start, Lexi showed us just how resilient she is.

Arthrogryposis affects her upper body, making it hard for her to move her arms like most kids. Her elbows couldn’t bend, which made simple things more challenging. By six months old, she had already figured out her own ways to use her hands, and when that didn’t work, she used her feet!

Lexi has been going to occupational and physical therapy since she was just two months old, working hard every step of the way. As a newborn, she went through weekly castings for her clubbed foot and then had an Achilles tenotomy. Most recently, she had elbow surgery on both arms to help her gain more movement. While she adjusted to her healing arms, she naturally started relying on her feet even more. She amazed us with how quickly she adapted, using her toes to grab toys, turn pages in books, and even feed herself. Walking has been a slower process for her, but she’s getting there in her own time.

Lexi is a firecracker! She adores dogs, Little Bear, and dancing to music. No matter what comes her way, she faces it with a fearless spirit, showing us daily that while some things may be more challenging, nothing is impossible. She inspires her father and me, teaching us what true strength and resilience look like. We couldn’t be prouder of the little fighter she is.
