It’s Trisomy Awareness Month! This month we raise awareness for all our babies who have trisomy, which is a genetic disorder which occurs when there are three copies of a chromosome, instead of the typical two. Therefore, we celebrate and advocate for our babies in March (the third month of the year). We hope you can wear this gear for the babies we love and raise awareness that we are changing the narrative and that love doesn’t count chromosomes.


Did you know that children with Trisomy 13 and 18 are often born with clenched fists? This is a physical marker and one of the first things we learn about our babies when we receive their diagnosis. Although, our babies having clenched fists is usually news that is delivered as a negative, it is one of our favorite physical characteristics of our babies. 🥰

The Stella Effect is a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to helping families who have a baby with trisomy 13 or 18 through celebrating birthdays, financial support for families moving for fair care, advocacy, and community.

OUR STORY

In 2016 at 27 weeks gestation we discovered that our daughter Lillian had an extra 18th chromosome. We were told our perfect warrior girl would not survive to her first birthday but against all odd she lived for five incredible years. It is the goal of our family to spread awareness and make a difference for medically complex children because of our beautiful Lillian.
